What is Object Replication?

Object replication in IDrive® e2 allows you to replicate objects between buckets within the same region or across different regions. The following are the key advantages of object replication:

  • Data protection: Creates redundant copies across regions to prevent data loss from failures or outages.
  • Disaster recovery: Provides a backup in a separate region, enabling quick recovery from regional disruptions.
  • Enhanced accessibility: Improves performance by storing data closer to end-users across multiple locations.
  • Regulatory compliance: Helps meet legal and regulatory requirements for data storage in specific regions.

How do I replicate objects from one bucket to another?

To replicate objects,

  1. Sign in to IDrive® e2 account via any browser.
  2. Navigate to the Object Replication tab and click Create Replication Job.
  3. Enter a description.
  4. Select Source Region and Source Bucket.
  5. Select the Destination Region and Destination Bucket.
  6. Choose options from the Advanced Options field as required:
    1. Replicate only new objects:
This option ensures that only newly added objects in the source bucket will be replicated to the destination bucket.
    2. Sync deleted objects:
If an object is deleted from the source bucket, it will also be deleted from the destination bucket to maintain consistency.
    3. Sync object locking configurations:
The replicated objects will be locked if the source object is in a locked state.
    4. Sync source object date:
This option will keep the replicated objects modified date same as source.
    5. Sync object tag:
This option will replicate object tags from source to destination.
    6. Note: If Advanced options are not selected, all existing and new objects will be replicated from the source bucket until the job ends.

  7. In the Filters section, add a prefix (optional) to filter the objects that will be copied from the source bucket.
For example, if you enter “image” as the prefix, then only the objects that contain “image” in their names will be copied to the destination bucket.
  8. Add object tags (optional) to filter the objects to be replicated.
Object tags are attributes that can be used to organize and categorize objects.
Note: If you select Sync deleted objects under advanced options, you cannot filter by object tags.
  9. Click Create.

The replication job will be created, and objects will be copied from the source bucket to the destination bucket.

What are the key requirements for object replication?

To perform object replication, the versioning status should be the same for both the source and destination buckets.

Can I pause the object replication job?

To pause a replication job,

  1. Sign in to IDrive® e2 account via any browser.
  2. Navigate to the Object Replication tab.
  3. Hover over the object replication job you wish to pause, and click.
  4. Click Pause in the confirmation popup.

The replication job will be paused, and the replication of objects from the source to the destination bucket will stop.

How do I resume a replication job?

To resume a replication job,

  1. Sign in to IDrive® e2 account via any browser.
  2. Navigate to the Object Replication tab.
  3. Hover over the paused object replication job you wish to resume, and click.
  4. Click Resume in the confirmation popup.

Object replication from the source bucket to the destination bucket will resume.

How do I delete an object replication job?

To delete a replication job,

  1. Sign in to IDrive® e2 account via any browser.
  2. Navigate to the Object Replication tab.
  3. Hover over the object replication job you wish to delete, and click .
  4. Click Delete in the confirmation popup.

The job will be deleted, and no further objects will be replicated from the source bucket to the destination bucket.

Can I edit a replication job?

To edit a replication job:

  1. Sign in to IDrive® e2 account via any browser.
  2. Navigate to the Object Replication tab.
  3. Hover over the object replication job you wish to edit, and click.
  4. You can edit the following settings as required:

    • Sync deleted objects:
If an object is deleted from the source bucket, it will also be deleted from the destination bucket to maintain consistency.
    • Sync object locking configurations:
The replicated objects will be locked if the source object is in a locked state.
    • Sync source object date:
This option will keep the replicated objects modified date same as source.
    • Sync object tags:
This option will replicate object tags from source to destination.
You can also add Object Tags and a Prefix.

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

Can I replicate objects in more than one bucket?

Yes, you can replicate objects to multiple buckets by creating a separate replication job for each destination bucket.

Can I add multiple replications from a single source bucket?

Yes, you can replicate data to up to 10 different destinations from a single source bucket. This helps to efficiently backup your data across multiple locations, either within the same region or across different regions.

Where can I view the status of my replication jobs?

Yes, you can easily monitor the status of your replication jobs from the Replication tab.

  • If the replication process is active, the status will be displayed as Running.
  • If the job has no more objects to sync, the status will be shown as Idle.
  • If the user pauses the replication job, the status will be displayed as Paused.
  • If there is a configuration mismatch, the status will be displayed as Config Mismatch, indicating that the versioning status of the source and destination buckets is not the same.
  • When a job fails or encounters a server error it is automatically restarted. During this time the job status is shown as Reprocessing.
